It's been estimated that 85% of available IP addresses have already been allocated to web-connected devices. There is a clear need for South African organisations and service providers to begin preparing for the shift towards Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) or risk facing significant operational and technical headaches. AFRINIC has 372 South African members - 25% of the total - and is the country with the most members. while 173 members hold an IPv6 allocation and are therefore able to deploy IPv6 on their networks, very few have actually done so.
